Security Systems: Motion Detectors and How They Work

Today, motion detectors are becoming one of the most popular components for a powerful security system for business establishments and for homes. Because motion detectors are hard to compromise or to trick, a lot of people see how beneficial this system is if they install it in their business establishment or around their home.

However, there are quite a few kinds of motion detectors available today. It is important that you should know which one you should choose to avoid spending a lot of money for a single unit and know what is effective for your needs.

Therefore, here are some of the motion detectors that you can add to your security systems around your house or your business establishment to provide additional security.

The first kind of motion detector is called the passive infrared motion detectors. Many people as the PIR detectors also know this particular detector.

The great thing about this detector is that it uses the passive infrared technology to detect motion. Usually mounted on walls or on the corner of the room, the PIR detector will send out several lines in several layers throughout the room.

What these lines do is that it detects the distance between the objects inside the room by measuring its temperature. Therefore, if a body with an entirely different temperature than that of the couch's goes near it will mean a disturbance in the room and will activate the alarm.

You have to consider that you will have difficulty in matching the temperature of every object inside the house. In fact, it can even be impossible to do unless you have state of the art equipments to tamper with the motion detector.

Of course, these devices can be more expensive than the actual things that the burglar will steal inside your home, unless it is a million dollars or a valuable piece of art.

It may prove to be troublesome if you have pets that can freely roam around the house. If you do, it would be a great idea that you should get a motion detector that is immune to your pet's motion.

Usually, the technician will train the motion detector by confining your pet to the protected area and let the motion detector get used to your pet's movements. This will allow the motion detector to memorize your pet's length, height, width and even weight measured through your pet's torso, height and length.

Other kinds of motion detectors use radio waves to reflect data around the room. When you activate this kind of motion detector, it will memorize the components inside the protected room by emitting radio waves and recording the signals that have bounced back to it.

This recorded radio wave is what the motion detector will depend on to calculate data or is a basis of the room's view. If someone enters the room, the radio waves will not match the pre-recorded image of the room and will signal a disturbance inside the room.

As you can see, motion detectors are quite easy to understand. Whether you use the infrared type of the radio wave type, you will definitely have a home or business establishment that is truly secured.

Therefore, the next time you plan to install additional security systems in your home or in your business establishment, you may want to try out motion detectors. It is easy to use and it is very effective as well as hard to compromise.
